Use 1/2 teaspoonful of Ancient Sunrise CMC Powder per 100g of Ancient Sunrise© indigo, The texture of indigo paste is more difficult to handle than henna paste, and can be a nuisance when dyeing your hair. If you add CMC powder, the texture is much easier to work with. CMC is carboxymethyl cellulose, a product of cornstarch, often used as a thickener. It will help smooth out your indigo paste.

Put your dry indigo powder into a bowl, and add in the dry CMC powder. Use a half-teaspoonful CMC powder to thicken 100g of indigo. | |
Stir the dry indigo and CMC powders together.The CMC powder must be completely dispersed into the indigo powder, or it will form thick lumps that cannot be stirred out. | |
Add distilled water to the indigo and CMC mix and stir until the mix is thick and creamy. CMC powder will make your indigo mix more manageable, and will help prevent little trickles of indigo water from separating out of the paste and running down your neck. |
